Mo Abudu, a gifted filmmaker from Nigeria, has expanded her global footprint by establishing a new film company called “Mo Abudu Films.”

‘Iyawo Mi’ and ‘Her Perfect Life’, two short films released under the new company, marked the EbonyLife TV boss’s debut as a director.

The producer of “Blood Sisters” expressed satisfaction about her most recent career-advancing steps in a statement provided to Variety.

I have taken the leap of faith to direct my first two short films with the establishment of Mo Abudu Films because I fervently believe that authentic artistic expression requires ultimate independence.

The Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival, which will take place from August 4 to August 12, 2023, will screen the two films that focus on the subject of mental health. Iyawo Mi will also be shown at the prestigious Cannes Festival’s Short Film Corner later in May, according to Deadline.

‘Iyawo Mi’ (My Wife) is a story about a married couple who live in the slums of Lagos and portrays the terrible tale of their life together. When the husband one day returns home to discover his wife having hallucinations, he suffers terrible repercussions while trying to find a way out of their situation. Jude Chukwuka, Koye Kekere-Ekun, and Blessing Obasi are among the Nollywood actors who appear in the movie alongside Lateef Abedimeji, Bolaji Ogunmola, and Segun Arinze.

Pearl Thusi portrays a successful young woman who, despite her accomplishments, wishes to take her own life in the movie “Her Perfect Life.” Actors in this particular film include Christian Paul, Mary Lazarus, Omowunmi Dada, Joseph Benjamin, and Uzo Osimkpa.

In my capacity as a storyteller and filmmaker, this accolade means a lot to me. I am glad for the chance to showcase my work at the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival because it serves as a platform to amplify the voices and opinions of Black filmmakers, said Abudu.

The media entrepreneur has recently taken steps to broaden her reach among a global audience by incorporating African stories. She announced a collaboration with British actor Idiris Elba and his Green Door Pictures media organization in March with the goal of promoting African actors in the film industry.
